As promised, today I will be sharing a little more detail on the final project for my Studio 2 class that I kept griping about always having to work on!
The premise of the project was to design a Veterans Rehabilitation Center, for 10 veterans from Iraq/Afghanistan to live in. These veterans are out of the intensive care of the hospital but are not yet ready to go back to their homes. In the space we designed, we needed to accommodate a physical therapy workout room, a counseling room, accessible spaces to those who might be in a wheelchair or on crutches, and of course your typical bedrooms/living room/dining room/kitchen/etc spaces.
At the beginning of our project, we had a student veteran come in and talk to us about his experience overseas, and what it was like having to adjust to life back here in America. Speaking with him provided much insight, and drove not just my design but my classmates' as well. Without going too deep into designer lingo, I will share that the concept that sparked my design was meditative rock balancing, and it lends itself to bringing the outdoors in, natural tones, and an idea of asymmetrical balance.
Of course there is always room for improvement, and after my presentation I got a lot of feedback from the critics, which included not just my professor but a number of other faculty. You always can see more clearly after you take a step back, away from your project; it allows you to notice what you did wrong and how to fix it next time. But overall I'm really proud with how it turned out! I think this project showcases some of my best rendering work yet, and I can only improve from here!
I hope you enjoyed seeing a glimpse of my schoolwork; I certainly love my major, despite the long hours I put in, and can't wait to be doing this in the real world!
