Classics: My Style Trick

Monday, February 22, 2016

Today's post is inspired by a style challenge I'm doing this month on Instagram. The prompt for today was "My Style Trick," and to be honest I had no idea what I was going to wear for it, until I was getting dressed yesterday.

I have a portion of my latest design project due today, so yesterday I was prepping for that. When I finished, I wanted to go ahead and take it over to my studio classroom so I could mark it totally off my to-do list. The problem was, I'd been lounging all day in almost pjs and even though I was going to be dropping off my project on my desk and leaving I still felt like getting dressed a little bit. But I certainly wasn't going to go all out, and I didn't feel like putting on makeup. Enter in a few classics, and my go-to style tricks, which I hadn't fully realized until yesterday!

When you are in a pinch, whether it's a last-minute errand or meeting like my situation or in a style rut, it's always a good idea to refer back to the classics. After all, that's why they are classics! For me, they are a striped tee, comfy jeans (a pair with a more relaxed fit), simple accessories, and a loose bun. Here, pink lipstick was a little bonus.

What are your classics? After all, "classics" for me might not be "classics" for you!

Circa 2011

Thursday, October 23, 2014

I recently went through all my photo albums on my computer for both a class project and a project for my mom, and it made me very nostalgic. In the process, I came across pictures from the Cummer Museum of Arts & Gardens in Jacksonville, FL, where I went back in 2011 for an art history trip while attending SCAD. To this day, it is still probably my favorite museum, or at least in the top three. I just remember having an absolute blast; it was a beautiful day, I was looking at art and flowers, and I remember not wanting to leave the gardens to get back on the bus.

I also remember being very excited about my outfit, thinking it was so on point. Of course it's been a few years so I own none of these pieces still, but I do still agree that it has the bones of a great classic look with a modern twist. Funny how some things never change, right? I still feel like that is my style in a nutshell, with a little more trendy mixed in from time to time.

Do you remember your favorite fashion moments? How has your style evolved over the years?

Fall. Turning leaves, crisper air, and the start of a new school year. Whether you are heading back to your college campus, taking your kids to the bus stop, or wanting to  embrace the autumn tones in your work outfit, playing with plaids, fall colors, and rich textures is a must as the temperatures get cooler. Another must? Anything-but-boring eyeglass frames, via philanthropic glasses company Warby Parker.

What Toms does for feet, Warby Parker does for eyes. With a smart business plan and a genius way to try on frames at home, Warby Parker does nothing less than impress. Their existing pieces blend smart & edgy with functionality & style. This fall, they are bringing in nine new eyeglass frame styles, two new colors, and that same classic but edgy style.
This collection is for the bold, those who "exercise their wit and add life to the party."

THEIR NEW COLLECTION:

**While this post was brought to you in part by Warby Parker, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
And I'll be honest when I say I wish I needed eyeglasses so I could buy myself a pair of these stylish babies!**
