Lately On Instagram

Thursday, May 26, 2016

Today I'm sharing a few looks you might have seen on Instagram while I was taking a blogging break. I have been totally enjoying spring time fashion, and I've been wearing a few things on repeat... always a good sign that you made a good purchase!

A Little Retro

Monday, May 23, 2016

I'm back!!! I have some great posts lined up for the next few weeks, but we shall start with this fun look. This outfit is a little "retro" for two reasons: 1) the print and the flared jeans allude to a past time and 2) I snapped these outfit pictures while I was still in Florida!

While I love a good pair of skinny jeans, lately I've been craving something new. When I saw this unique 70's inspired pair from LOFT, I trusted my gut and decided to order them. I couldn't be happier! I'm excited to style them a variety of ways-- if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them!

In case you missed my hint on Instagram, I am now officially moved back home to Colorado and can't wait to make new post-grad memories in my home state. I'm starting an exciting internship next month, and before I do so I'm scratching some wedding to-do's off my list while I have more free time. I've decided to mix things up and am cutting back my posts here on TSL to 3 a week, which allows me to provide better content for y'all to read. I've also got some big ideas and changes cooking in my brain right now... I'll keep 'ya posted as they develop further :)

I hope y'all have a great Monday!

Summer Dreaming

Monday, April 18, 2016

Short and sweet today, as I've spent the whole weekend working endlessly on my senior capstone project that is due this week. This breezy look has me dreaming of summer vacations... I picture this being the perfect look for exploring a new city. The neutral palette makes the yellow beads of my necklace pop.

Part of what is so fun about fashion is pushing yourself; I'm not normally a hat person, but I do have this straw fedora that rarely gets worn. I adore it with this outfit!

Flowy: Check!

Thursday, April 14, 2016

This was another top I picked up in the Old Navy sale. I debated ordering it, because I wasn't sure if I'd like it in person or not. I love the idea of it; I don't have any gingham print, and I think this outfit would look great for work if I added a jacket or sweater. The fabric is thin, but not so thin you need a camisole underneath. (If that was the case, it would be returned without question. I don't mess with the whole camisole thing lol) I didn't get a great picture of the back, but there's a cute cutout detail; that and the flowy nature of this top will make it perfect for the warmer days of spring and summer!

Because I got such a good deal on it, and I'm honestly too busy to bother with a return, I'm going to keep it. We will see how much I wear it!

Peppy Peplum

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

The bright colors in this outfit definitely put a pep in my step! It's funny, I've always been into color but as I get older I also have this new found love for neutrals (they make getting ready oh so easy). So when I go back to my colorful roots it's a nice, fun change. I picked up several cute tanks from Old Navy last week, because they were having a crazy sale and my glass or two of wine had me thinking I needed new tanks for spring. Good thing I really did! :) I never really got into the peplum trend but this loose version seems perfect for layering in the spring, soaking up the sun in the summer, and then back to layering come fall. Best $6 investment ever!

Here, I've paired the coral stripes with a fun statement necklace, dark denim skinnies (a must-have basic for me!) and my oh-so-comfy sandals. If it was chilly, I could add a nice solid cardigan but when I was taking these photos it was definitely not cardigan weather... That's Florida for you!

Fake It...

Tuesday, April 12, 2016

...until you make it!
Yesterday I was in kind of a maxi skirt mood when I was thinking up outfits for the blog (and for real-life this week!) but alas I do not actually own a maxi skirt. I used to have two, but I just felt like I wasn't wearing either one very much. For me, I think a maxi skirt is one of those pieces I just wouldn't wear often, but occasionally it'd be just the perfect finishing piece to an outfit. Do you have anything like that in your closet (rather, not in your closet)?

So I decided to fake a maxi skirt with this striped tee layered over a dress and tied in a chic knot. Looks pretty legit to me! :) The classic combo of navy, white, and silver is a go-to for me, but adding fun touches like the high-low hem of the dress/skirt, sparkly TOMS, and a trendy statement necklace keep the look interesting and updated.

Chic

Wednesday, April 6, 2016

Quick story behind this jacket: I tried it on over the summer in Florence, Italy at Zara and really liked it but didn't buy it. Totally regretted it. Then I saw the exact jacket on ThredUp. I bought the jacket, and it came the other day. Despite the weather not being appropriate (at least not by the end of the day) for jacket weather, I had to wear this classic chic look that had been in my brain since I hit the order button!

This is the perfect lightweight layering piece; and ever since I saw it over the summer there were several instances where it would have been the perfect finishing piece. And now it can be! The fashion gods were on my side. :)

Bright Florals

Monday, March 21, 2016

This bright floral blouse just makes me happy. Something about the fun print just makes me smile! I can't wait to work this into my work wardrobe (first step: get a post-grad job!) but for now it works perfectly for more casual occasions, especially when paired with jeans. My plan was to wear this to an IDSO meeting (Interior Design Student Organization; I'm the treasurer) but then the weather was far warmer so I traded the jeans out for navy shorts, as you might have seen from my Instagram. Easy fix! Simple jewelry pieces allow the floral to really pop.

Feeling Green

Thursday, March 17, 2016

Happy St. Patrick's Day! This is what I'm wearing today... In case your curious, this year I've started using taking outfit photos for TSL as a way to plan my outfits. So I decided on this a few days ago when I brought out the tripod for a photo session. I think working like this not only helps me be proactive, but it also makes for more authentic outfits for y'all to see--not just staged looks I actually wouldn't wear in my daily life!

This dress (and my identical navy one) were staples in Italy last summer, and I can't wait to pull them out again this spring & summer. Here, I've picked the green one in celebration of the holiday, pairing it with my denim jacket and this funky beaded necklace I've had for years. I'm traveling today, so this will be a perfectly comfortable look for being in the car, without sacrificing style.

Out With Friends

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

I wore this on Saturday to go out with some of my fiancé's friends from work. We started off the evening with a nice date-night dinner, and then met them out for drinks. Good fun, good conversation. And this outfit was perfect, especially since I'm on spring break and this colorful statement necklace is called "Spring Break"! A neutral color palette makes a colorful necklace like this one pop. Another bonus? This outfit was 100% fiancé approved :) he even helped me decide what shoes to wear! Anyone else feel like over time you have trained you boyfriend/husband to have an eye for style?

Lately...

Monday, March 7, 2016

I kind of dropped the ball on blogging last week... I hate that! Y'all might not have even noticed, but blogging has become such a fun past time for me, regardless of who actually reads these posts, and so to not be on top of it last week kind of messed me up. The last two weeks of February were especially busy for me, but now I am on spring break and am relaxing in Daytona Beach with my fiancé! :) I certainly was due for a break.

Tomorrow I'll be sharing some tips, as promised, on how to get your best Stitch Fix. In the mean time, here are a few outfits you might have seen on Instagram, but not in detail here.

I hope your March is off to a great start!

February Style

Monday, February 29, 2016

I'm kicking off the last day in February by sharing some of my favorite looks from this past month! If I had to narrow it down to just three... I'd pick my Red & Plaid look, Valentine's Day look, and the date-night look I put together with pieces from my 6th Stitch Fix Haul. As the temperatures start to get warmer and spring creeps in, I added more brights & colors to my outfits-- I'm looking forward to spring style! Anyone else ready for some more warm-weather styles?!

Happy Monday!

Hints of Spring

Tuesday, February 23, 2016

The minute I saw this moody floral print tee at LOFT I knew I had to have it, because the olive tone in it was the perfect match for these pants. I was totally right! I love these two pieces together; they are a perfect transition outfit from winter into spring because of the florals combined with the dark colors. When I wore this yesterday for class, I threw on my silver glitter Toms, but I think it also looks great with wedges for a dressier, springtime look. As far as layers go, I grabbed a gray sweater on my way out the door, but a white jean jacket would also look so cute with these looks!

Classics: My Style Trick

Monday, February 22, 2016

Today's post is inspired by a style challenge I'm doing this month on Instagram. The prompt for today was "My Style Trick," and to be honest I had no idea what I was going to wear for it, until I was getting dressed yesterday.

I have a portion of my latest design project due today, so yesterday I was prepping for that. When I finished, I wanted to go ahead and take it over to my studio classroom so I could mark it totally off my to-do list. The problem was, I'd been lounging all day in almost pjs and even though I was going to be dropping off my project on my desk and leaving I still felt like getting dressed a little bit. But I certainly wasn't going to go all out, and I didn't feel like putting on makeup. Enter in a few classics, and my go-to style tricks, which I hadn't fully realized until yesterday!

When you are in a pinch, whether it's a last-minute errand or meeting like my situation or in a style rut, it's always a good idea to refer back to the classics. After all, that's why they are classics! For me, they are a striped tee, comfy jeans (a pair with a more relaxed fit), simple accessories, and a loose bun. Here, pink lipstick was a little bonus.

What are your classics? After all, "classics" for me might not be "classics" for you!

Hit or Miss?

Thursday, February 11, 2016

If I'm being honest, I wasn't sure about posting this outfit or not. When I wore it a few weeks ago (yeah, I've been putting it off lol) I thought it was super cute, but looking at the pictures I'm just not sure. But I decided what the heck, this blog wouldn't be authentic if I didn't share some fashion flops. A few things I do like that are going on here: this top is super comfy and I love the pops of red with the jewelry and my vintage red heels.

So what do you think? Was this a good look? What might make it better?

Girly Girl

Wednesday, February 10, 2016

Normally I don't describe my style as being girly, but that doesn't mean I can't dress super girly every once and a while! This look combines a few of my favorite things: a new dress I'm totally having a moment with, my beloved floral coat, classic Premier Jewelry pieces, and a vintage handbag from my Nana. Wedges add a comfort level you just don't get with heels, making this a perfect dressed up but comfortable look perfect for Valentine's Day!

Also, today is my mom's birthday! I won't say her age, but I will say it's a milestone birthday, so make sure to send some love her way :) Happy Wednesday!
